BME Seminar: Exploring the Latest NGS Innovations and Applications in Genomics Research

The seminar hosted by Dr. Bee Luan KHOO, Dr. Man Chun LEONG shared about the development of gene sequencing and how it is contributing to modern medicine.

The drop in the cost of gene sequencing, high speed, accuracy, and sustainability are some of the positive boosts in the past two decades. Moreover, different governments are using this technology to collect population data for laboratory study with the aim to improve personalized medicine.

He touched on the topic of single cell sequencing which is more beneficial in studying cell genomics as even cells of the same tissue may express different genomes (which sometimes results in a disease). Understanding various cell genomes assists in developing personalized medicine with high specificity to the target.
